Beacon of light in plan to reuse lighthouse
In 2008 it wanted to install six solar panels next to the lighthouse to power the 250-watt mercury bulb and additional floodlights. Port Nelson wants to revive the old lighthouse on Boulder Bank for aesthetic purposes only, emitting a floodlight from its top where a gas lamp once burned. The port company has applied for resource consent to build an enclosure for a generator and batteries to supply power to the floodlights. Floodlights are also planned to light up the whole structure at night. Port Nelson chief executive Martin Byrne said the company wanted to get the plan under way for the community.

I would put halogens and use the 500 watt bulbs they will light your backyard up like day light. But they should be able to be switched off. The reason is if you are relaxing outside at night you don't want them going off. Word of advice the more expensive
