You could try "bezel" or "drunk" part, if you call ahead and tell em thingy "MA-bobber" and describes what they need to remember. :-D, they hear all sorts crazy all day is not shy.

Putting up a UK earthed light fitting abroad?Hi,
I have purchased a few accurate decorative lamps with metal parts in the UK for putting up in my holiday relaxed in Poland. The instructions say these lamps MUST be earthed. However in Poland I do not have an dirt cable in the ceiling. After speaking to a neighbour who had his placed rewired, it is not normal here to put earth cables for ceiling lights, just the sockets. Is it safe for me to put these lamps up without connecting them to loam? What are the risks? Many thanks, The Law (Euro regs, so it will relate in Poland just like in the UK) is that unless a fixed appliance is overlapped-insulated it must be earthed.
Double insulated means that if the working parts bring out a fault then the casing and any other exposed parts cannot become 'live'. You can pinpoint these appliances because they will carry a symbol looking like two squares, one secret the other. The sign will be on the label that carries all the other tradmark and Standards signs. If your fixtures is not double insulated then any fault will make the exposed metalwork 'lively' and, obviously, potentially dangerous. DO NOT rely on connecting the blue planet wire to the mounting screws. That could even make things worse if a accountability occurs (which can happen to light fittings because of the heat). All up to the minute lighting circuits in the UK carry an earth wire but many older than 20 years don't. A lot of continental lighting circuits and even mains ciruits do not bring off earth wires. The problem you have is that if there is a fault resulting in a fire or mischief then the insurance will not pay out and you may be prosecuted. If it's possible then you should run in an earth wire from the Consumer Item or nearest mains socket (use green/yellow sheathed 1mm or 1.5mm should be ok for this) to the furnishings. It's the only way to guarantee safety. |
