It automatically turns on the lamp when I wake up and turns off the lamp after I leave for work, so I dont have to worry about leaving the lights on unnecessarily. The green pins turn on the lamp (or any electrical device plugged into the unit) and the red pins turn it off. Ive had the Intermatic TIMER for many years and it has worked very reliably for me. I set it to turn on and turn off the lamp in the morning. Next, Find the point on the dial for the desired time the device should be turned on and push the green pin in. Similarly, place the red pin at the desired time. It comes with 4 pins -- 2 green and 2 red. To work the timer, the time will have to be set by rotating the dial. --- If you dont need precision, the Intermatic works very well. Cons ---- - The time you set is approximate only....

Can a 120-volt standard lamp be converted to run off 12V dc?Hope the question says it all: I have a 12v DC bulb and power and would like to use the bulb in a 120V lamp. I don't want a dc-to-ac transformer/convertor. Just wondering if it is possible to use a stanard lamp, DC bulb as is on DC.
It depends on the wattage of the bulb. If your 120V lamp is rated for say 100 watts, then you would only be able to use a 10 watt 12V lamp for the same amperage. The socket and/or wire may not be able to handle a big enough 12V bulb to be of much use
